They also need to be board-certified by bodies like the American Board of Family Medicine. Key skills include excellent patient communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and compassion. They must be well-versed in medical laws and ethics, and be adept at using various medical equipment and technology. Prior roles that a person may have before becoming a GP include being a Medical Intern, Resident Physician, and Associate Physician.
