General Practitioner Jobs

A General Practitioner (GP) is a vital professional in the Physician industry. They are usually the first point of contact for most patients seeking healthcare services and provide comprehensive, continued and community-based medical care to individuals. GPs diagnose and treat various health conditions, illnesses, and injuries, refer patients to specialists when needed, and perform minor surgeries. They also play a significant role in health education and disease prevention initiatives by advising patients on diet, exercise, and other healthy habits.

To become a General Practitioner, one needs to possess several important skills and certifications. They typically hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree, followed by a residency in family medicine or general practice. They also need to be board-certified by bodies like the American Board of Family Medicine. Key skills include excellent patient communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and compassion. They must be well-versed in medical laws and ethics, and be adept at using various medical equipment and technology. Prior roles that a person may have before becoming a GP include being a Medical Intern, Resident Physician, and Associate Physician.
