A Rheumatologist is a specialist physician in the medical sector who diagnoses and treats diseases of the joints, muscles, and bones, commonly known as Rheumatic diseases. These diseases include arthritis, gout, lupus, osteoarthritis, and Rheumatoid arthritis, among others. After their residency, they then complete a fellowship in Rheumatology. Therefore, before becoming a Rheumatologist, an individual might have roles such as medical school student, internal medicine resident, or pediatric resident. A Rheumatologist should have board certification in Rheumatology and potentially subspecialty certification in pediatric Rheumatology for those working with children.
