Pulmonologist Jobs in Monroe, NC

A Pulmonologist is a specialized medical professional who diagnoses and treats conditions and diseases affecting the respiratory system. They play a pivotal role in the Physician industry, dealing with a range of health issues from common concerns like asthma and pneumonia to more severe conditions such as lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). They perform diagnostic procedures like bronchoscopy and interpret tests like pulmonary function test (PFT). They also provide critical care to patients in emergency settings or intensive care units, managing ventilators and life support systems.

To become a Pulmonologist, they should have completed a medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) and a residency in Internal Medicine followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary Disease. They should possess excellent diagnostic, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, along with strong communication abilities to interact with patients and their families. Board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease is often required. Prior roles that a person may hold before becoming a Pulmonologist include Internal Medicine Physician, Resident in Pulmonology, or a Fellow in Pulmonary Disease.
