Neurologist Jobs in Mississippi

A Neurologist is a medical specialist who diagnoses and treats disorders that affect the nervous system, including diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. They are an integral part of the Physician industry, and are often required to interpret complex clinical and diagnostic data, including results from neuroimaging studies. Neurologists also perform procedures such as lumbar punctures and electroencephalography. They work with patients of all ages, and conditions they treat can range from migraines and stroke, to multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.

Before becoming a Neurologist, a medical practitioner may have roles such as a Medical Intern, Medical Resident or a General Practitioner. Essential skills for a Neurologist include exceptional analytical thinking, keen attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. Further, strong hand-eye coordination is required for performing specific procedures. Neurologists need to be board-certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). They may also opt for additional subspecialty certifications in areas like Neurocritical care, Vascular Neurology, and Neuroimaging.
