Geriatrician Jobs in North Dakota
A Geriatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disabilities in older adults. They play a critical role in the medical field, providing comprehensive health care for people as they age, and advocating for their needs. Geriatricians manage multiple disease conditions, work with various healthcare professionals, and coordinate care of their patients. They are often involved in research and policy development related to geriatric health care. They provide preventive care, treating conditions like heart disease, arthritis, and Alzheimer's, and offering advice on diet and exercise to promote healthy aging.
To become a Geriatrician, a physician must first complete a residency in Internal Medicine or Family Practice, followed by a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine. They should have strong skills in communication, empathy, patience and problem-solving. An important certification they should have includes a board certification in Geriatric Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Board of Family Practice. Roles a person may have before becoming a Geriatrician include being an Internist, Family Practitioner or a General Practitioner, all of which involve managing a broad range of health conditions and coordinating care among different specialists.
