Their tasks often involve performing various types of allergy tests, prescribing medications, and providing immunotherapy. Additionally, Allergists are responsible for counselling patients on managing allergic reactions and preventing future incidents.
A potential Allergist must possess excellent diagnostic skills, a strong knowledge of immunological diseases, and the ability to communicate effectively with patients. They should hold a medical degree and complete a residency in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics before specializing in Allergy and Immunology. Certifications from the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) or a similar recognized body are also essential. Prior to becoming an Allergist, a professional may work as a General Practitioner, Pediatrician, or Internal Medicine Physician to gain the necessary clinical experience.
