The Department of Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University is seeking a Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs. This dedicated leader will represent the Department of Anesthesiology throughout our Department and Wexner Medical Center for issues related to clinical operations while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment in the context of a large academic anesthesiology practice The Vice Chair will work with other department leaders to help oversee day-to-day clinical operations as well as develop a strategic plan for operational excellence to meet the growing needs of our clinical and academic missions. The medical center is experiencing continued growth of inpatient and ambulatory services, creating excellent opportunities to build upon and expand our clinical footprint. The health systems strategic plan includes $4 billion in facilities expansion and programmatic development over the next few years. The Vice Chair will report to the Department of Anesthesiology Chair and collaborate with other Department leaders.
Successful Candidate Qualifications:
MD, MD/PhD or equivalent
Current board certification in Anesthesiology
Licensed/license eligible to practice medicine in the state of Ohio
A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in an academic setting
Experience building and maintaining a successful clinical practice
Demonstrated leadership skills in supporting innovative clinical programs and service lines
Qualify for academic appointment at Associate or Professor rank
Responsibilities of this committed leader include:
Direct day-to-day clinical operations of the Department
Oversee staff scheduling and deployment
Optimize resource management and clinical care coordination to meet hospital needs
Build and support a team of Department clinical leaders to promote operational excellence
Develop short- and long-term strategic plan for operational excellence
Coordinate clinical activities and patient care across all anesthetizing locations
Support a respectful and professional work environment
Represent the Department in interactions with hospital leadership and other stakeholders
Collaborate closely with other Department Vice Chairs, clinical, education, and research leaders
Facilitate recruitment and onboarding of new faculty and staff
Attend key hospital and department committee meetings
Department of Anesthesiology:
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Centers Department of Anesthesiology is a large academic department with comprised of exceptional faculty, CRNAs, CAAs, residents and fellows. The Department is committed to a tripartite mission of clinical excellence, education and research. The Department provides both general and subspecialty anesthesiology care. Our education mission is foundational to our department, as it is throughout The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The members of our well-trained faculty are deeply invested in teaching and training our medical students, residents and fellows. We offer ACGME-accredited fellowships in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, critical care medicine, obstetric anesthesiology, regional anesthesia, and pain medicine. We also offer fellowships in neuroanesthesiology and ambulatory anesthesiology/business and leadership. We have a state-of-the-art medical simulation center that is imbedded into our curriculum.
In the arena of patient care, the Department of Anesthesiology boasts a strong team of faculty and advanced practice providers with training and expertise across the entire spectrum of perioperative care. We provide leading edge care in preoperative assessment, acute and chronic pain management, neurosurgery, orthopedics, obstetrics, ambulatory care, critical care, cardiothoracic surgery and many other surgical and procedural areas and manage a tremendous breadth of surgical subspecialty and procedural care, which also provides a rich environment for teaching and research. With respect to research, we are extremely proud of the large number of active clinical and basic science protocols in place in the department, the fruits of which are published in high impact journals. The primary duties of the positions will be overseeing clinical operations and collaborating with other clinical leaders at our many inpatient and ambulatory facilities throughout the health system.
