This temporary position is located in Goldsboro, NC - Wayne County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $130.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services. This position is located at 1401 W Ash Street., Goldsboro, NC 27530.

  1. Medical Services Moonlighting provider will accurately and thoroughly assess and treat all patients that they encounter at Cherry during their shift. These encounters occur in response to situations that include but are not limited to:

a. Contact from unit staff RN following the RN assessment that indicates a patient is experiencing a potential or actual decline in their condition.

b. Patient has a medical complaint, not previously evaluated by the medical services provider, that after RN assessment is felt to warrant Medical Services physician evaluation.

c. Unit RN has a concern for a newly recognized medical risk factor (e.g., Aspiration, Falls)

d. Hand off communication from medical or psychiatric medical staff requesting follow up evaluation by medical moonlighter.

e. Consults requested by psychiatric providers.

f. New admissions to the Medical Psychiatric Unit.

g. Panic or significantly abnormal lab values that are communicated to the physician

h. Emergency Medical Conditions: Medical Emergency or Code Blue calls

i. Routine medical assessments (Medical Reviews and History and Physical) as applicable

  1. Care will be accomplished using evidence based medical guidelines as they exist.

  2. The physician will ensure that the patient and/or their legally responsible person (LRP) is educated about planned evaluations, significant results/outcomes and treatments as indicated. The provider will consider the wishes of the patient and/or their LRP when determining the best course of evaluation and treatment.

  3. The physician will collaborate in a congenial and polite manner with nursing staff, ancillary staff and support staff throughout the facilities in order to effectively carry out afterhours care of the patients.

  4. The physician will collaborate in a congenial and polite manner with administrative and Cherry Medical Staff personnel when called upon to do so for reasons that may include, but are not limited to: risk management inquiries, survey readiness, committee assignments and other special projects.

6. The physician will assess and treat employees suffering from workplace related illness or injury.

7. The physician will assess, stabilize and, if indicated, transfer to a higher level of care, employees, contractors, visitors or individuals not yet admitted to the facility who are suspected to have unstable medical conditions, following all Federal guidelines and regulations.

8. The physician will respond to and participate in the management of medical emergencies for all client groups (patients, non-patients) experiencing acute medical decompensation including, but not limited to, acute cardiopulmonary arrest.

  • Position requires basic and continuously updated, evidence-based knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathology, pharmacology, physical medicine, primary care medicine, preventive health maintenance, emergency medical care, radiology interpretation, ECG interpretation and administrative procedures.
  • Position requires knowledge of and adherence to Cherry Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Position requires ethical and stringent adherence to safe practice of medicine such that associates and patients are not placed at increased risk of harm due to medical provider's practices.
  • Visual attention, mental concentration and manipulative skills are required and used constantly at the very high level that is necessary in the routine and emergency medical care of patients. The ability to jog (run at a slow pace) to medical emergencies is required. Additional physical effort is required when duty is scheduled overnight.
  • Errors in medicine can result in harm to patients, therefore, it is expected that accuracy and attention to detail will be evident in the provider's daily practice habits and documentation. When error occurs, the provider will be required to accept feedback with grace and introspection. The provider will be expected to have the ability to learn from errors and provide the supervisor with personal plans for improvement if appropriate.

Successful Graduation from an NC Medical Board recognized and accredited School of Medicine with MD or DO degree granted.

Successful completion of an internship in a field of primary care medicine: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics or Medicine and Pediatrics, Neurology.

Requirements Licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina.

Required by Cherry Medical Services Department:

Certification and ongoing, every two-year, recertification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support course
