The Pre-Admissions Surgical Screening clinic ensures patients receive comprehensive preoperative evaluations, optimizing their health before surgery to enhance outcomes and reduce complications. You would be responsible for conducting thorough preoperative assessments to evaluate patients suitability for anesthesia and surgery. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, optimizing patients medical conditions, and ensuring a safe anesthetic plan tailored to individual needs.
*We are expecting this physician to be in clinic for an estimated 20 hours per week.
A day in the life
- Conduct detailed pre-anesthesia evaluations, including medical history review, physical examinations, and risk assessments.
- Order and interpret necessary diagnostic tests (e.g., ECG, lab work, imaging) to assess surgical risk.
- Identify potential anesthesia-related risks and develop individualized anesthetic plans in collaboration with the surgical and anesthesia teams.
- Optimize patients with chronic medical conditions (e.g., cardiovascular, pulmonary, endocrine disorders) in coordination with primary care providers and specialists.
- Educate patients on anesthesia options, risks, and perioperative care, addressing any concerns or questions.
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth and safe perioperative process.
- Provide recommendations for preoperative interventions, such as medication adjustments, additional testing, or specialist referrals.
- Document findings, assessments, and care plans accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Administer post-operative nerve blocks, including peripheral nerve blocks, regional blocks, and continuous catheter blocks.
- Stay updated on best practices, guidelines, and advancements in anesthesia and perioperative medicine.
Requirements
- Valid and unrestricted State of Nevada medical license (MD/DO) prior to employment;
- Board Certification (or eligibility to obtain) in Anesthesiology.
Nice to have but not required
- Experience evaluating patients in a pre-anesthesia surgical clearance clinic setting;
- Knowledge of risk stratification and optimization of high-risk surgical patients.
